The exercise was carried out in Wellington Street, Hannah Street, Dumphries Street, Hybrid Street, Forth Street, East Road and Oxford Street in the tough community.
“Jamaica must be a place where people can feel free to live and raise families. We cannot afford for criminals claiming to be dons to dictate our way of life. We will paint out these pictures and ask them to put in placepositive pictures,” Superintendent of Police for the Kingston Western Division Steve McGregor said.
McGregor urged citizens to cooperate with the police as they “continue to make Jamaica violence free by ridding the streets of negative influences and impacts and replacing them with positive messages for our children to see”.
According to McGregor in troubled communities like those located in the Kingston Western Division, local artists in a bid to claim fame have sought to immortalize criminal elements and dons. Whether they are dead, overseas, incarcerated or still very present locally instilling terror in the lives of our citizens, they remain the object of this graphic immortalization.
